3 Essential Pieces of décor to Add a 1940s Retro feel to Your Bedroom
Whether you’ve just moved into a new home, or you’re looking to refresh your current one, it’s always nice to add key pieces to give your abode a personality. If you’re anything like me, you think that a little retro and vintage flair goes a long way in accomplishing this. Since most people spend a good portion of quality time in this room, let’s start with 3 Essential pieces of decor for giving your bedroom a Retro feel.
If you live in a part of the world where it’s hot anywhere from 3-12 months of the year, you probably have some soft of air conditioning, or perhaps a few large plastic fans. Cover them, give them away, or get rid of them because your first essential piece is:
- Retro Styled Fan – Whether you like reading books that feature Philip Marlowe, or watch movies that Star Betty Davis, you know that this is a must! Pick an all metal desktop or a wood and metal ceiling fan to help set the mood. If you happen across an actual vintage table top lamp with a tad of rust, leave the rust on it! It will add to the retro feel that you’re going for.
- Curtains and Drapes – The blandest room can take on an extraordinary personality with the right set of window treatments. If you’re going for a light and airy feel, choose Beige or Cream color Linens. If you’re going for passionate boudoir ambiance, pick a heavy Italian Wool or Velvet in a deep delicious red or green.
- Lighting – Lighting will make or break any area not just your bedroom. It’s not always easy for come across a 1940’s looking lamp, but it can be done. Steer away from obvious looking visible plastic parts. Looked for brushed metals in warm colors, like bronze and copper.
